This trail is flat and paved, which is great for speed work or for allowing the mind to turn off and tune in for a steady paced run. For this run, we will take the second approach and use our time to focus on the beauty this trail has to offer while getting our legs moving and heart rate elevated at a constant pace. We will have optional running strides on the last straightway for those wanting an additional challenge. The majority of the pace will be around 8:30-8:45/minute, but do not let this be a deterrent for signing up. The route is an out and back and offers the chance to explore your own pace while still getting the benefits from a group run. There are drinking fountains along the way and at the halfway turnaround spot. There is ample street parking on 51st Street and Chanel Ave, next to the Allied Propane Service company. There is an entrance to the trail at the end of 51st St. I will be wearing an American flag sweatband so you can all spot me:) Happy Running!

Hill running at the Lafayette Reservoir Rim Trail
Lafayette
5 Miles
Save
A lot of hills equals a lot of fun in a relatively short and compact run right in your East Bay backyard. The Lafayette Reservoir Upper Rim Trail provides great views along with a great workout on the hills. As we loop the reservoir, you are treated to amazing views of the valley and surroundings. During this run we will focus on uphill and downhill running techniques and proper form to become more effective and efficient hill runners. The Layfayette Reservoir entrance is located at 3849 Mount Diablo Blvd Lafayette, CA 94549. As you drive into the entrance, continue straight up the hill and you will then turn to your left to park at the parking meters or you can pay at the kiosk. Parking at the meters will be more cost efficient. Meet at the bathrooms just to the right side of the parking lot. As some of the hills are steep on this run, feel free to power hike the steep parts and run the flats and downhills. Expect avg 12-13 miles per minute pace overall. I would estimate that this translates to about 9-10 minutes per mile on a flat road.
